Alert - Call to Action

CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
ACTION REQUIRED

May 4, 2012

Dear FCMA Members:

On Thursday, May 3, an incredible event happened in the Connecticut General Assembly.   Despite passage of an amendment last week in the Senate by a vote of 32 to 3, the House of Representatives rejected by a vote of 74 to 69 the same amendment that would have lowered the qualification requirements for medical experts who sign a Certificate of Merit in a medical liability legal action.

The Connecticut trial lawyers were handed an amazing defeat; but it is not over yet. FCMA received word the plaintiff lawyers are mounting a campaign to resurrect the bill for another vote before the 2012 legislative session ends at midnight on May 9.

Take five minutes over the next day or two and ask your State Senator and State Representative not to vote for any bill that would lessen the qualification requirements for medical experts who sign a Certificate of Merit in a medical liability legal action.

Tell your elected officials that CGS 52-190a should remain in its current form.

What Fairfield County Medical Association has done for you lately

FCMA, working together with AmeriCares, successfully convinced the Connecticut medical licensing division that it should waive the annual medical licensing fee for those retired physicians who provide at least 100 hours of pro bono medical care in the previous year in a facility licensed by the state.
